The English Premier League (EPL) has filed two cryptocurrency and NFT trademarks in the U.S., a sign the world’s most-watched sports league is gearing up to expand its brand into the digital scene. The Premier League is the top level of professional English football, comprising 20 teams.

The trademarks were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) last week and brought to light in a tweet by licensed trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis on June 6. The two filings pertain to the U.S. use of trademarks associated with the league, one centered on the league’s name and logo of a “lion wearing a crown in three-quarter view” and the other regarding a “loving cup trophy” adorned with lions on each handle and a crown on top.

“Don't have a lot of words right now. Blown away by how the community has rallied around PoolTogether Inc and myself,” said PoolTogether co-founder Leighton Cusack. No-loss lottery decentralized finance (DeFi) platform PoolTogether has reached 100% of its legal defense funding goal via the sale of nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

It has taken the project just ten days to reach its funding goal of 769 Ether (ETH) or $1.4 million, signaling strong support from the DeFi community, which is rallying against a lawsuit that some feel is an attack on the greater sector as a whole. The NFTs are priced at 0.1, 1 and 75 ETH a pop, and vary in the number of total minted tokens. The project will eventually roll out "hodler utility" for the NFTs moving forward. Cointelegraph previously reported on Wednesday that PoolTogether’s fundraising project had hit around 471 ETH last week.

Less than two months after someone compromised the official Bored Ape Yacht Club Instagram account to steal $2.4 million worth of NFTs, BAYC creator Yuga Labs is again facing questions about its security measures.

In the early hours of June 4th, a scammer carried out a phishing attack that netted them 200 Ethereum worth of NFTs, according to Web3 is Going Great. After obtaining the login credentials of a community manager, the hacker reportedly used the official Bored Apes Discord to promote a fake giveaway exclusive to holders of Bored Ape, Mutant Ape and Otherside NFTs. "Our Discord servers were briefly exploited today," said Yuga Labs. "The team caught and addressed it quickly. About 200 ETH worth of NFTs appear to have been impacted."

Cannabis companies are using the metaverse to set up shops, promote their core product, and sell real-world merchandise and nonfungible tokens.Higher Life CBD Dispensary LLC opened a store in December in Voxels, a Metaverse-like platform called Cryptovoxels until it was rebranded in May. The company partnered with Saucy Farms & Extracts LLC in February to take over the store’s second floor.

Virtual visitors cannot order Haier Life’s CBD products directly within the virtual store, but they can click on the counterfeit cash register to visit Haier Life’s website and order CBD products there. Company co-founder Alex Todd said Saucy didn’t sell many items to visitors who clicked on its cash register. But Saucy expects that to change when more people join the metaverse. “It’s a wide open space in Web3 … regulators haven’t wrapped their heads around it yet,” Ms Buffo said.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. announced it was collaborating with the non-fungible token (NFT) focused social media platform Nifty’s and at the end of June, the two firms will launch a story-driven NFT collection called “Looney Tunes: What’s Up Block?” The upcoming NFTs will tell a unique Looney Tunes storyline and will also celebrate the character Tweety’s 80th anniversary.

A unique Looney Tunes-based blockchain program will leverage non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to tell a story, according to the American film and entertainment company Warner Bros. and the NFT-centric social media firm Nifty’s. Warner Bros. says that it is collaborating with Nifty’s again in order to release an NFT compilation called “Looney Tunes: What’s Up Block?” According to the announcement the NFTs will be used to create a “fresh narrative".

U.S. prosecutors in Manhattan on Wednesday unveiled an indictment accusing a product manager at OpenSea, the largest online marketplace for non-fungible tokens, of insider trading.Nathaniel Chastain was accused of secretly buying 45 NFTs based on confidential information that they would soon be featured on OpenSea’s home page, and later selling them at a profit, typically two to five times what he paid.

According to an indictment filed in Manhattan federal court, the scheme ran from June to September 2021, and Chastain transacted through anonymous digital currency wallets and accounts at OpenSea.Chastain was charged with wire fraud and money laundering. A lawyer for him could not immediately be identified. OpenSea and the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
