2021-08-23 21:01:04 The Banco Central de Reserva, El Salvador's central bank, has released draft regulations regarding the handling of BTC by banking institutions.
Two documents were published, defining BTC as legal tender and detailing certain regulations that financial entities will need to adhere to.
These include applying to the central bank if they wish to provide digital wallets, putting KYC verification into place for all customers, allowing the Central Bank to monitor transactions and ensuring two-way BTC-to-dollar convertibility. Applications will need to be detailed, including, for example, how the entity will educate customers, and how customers should make complaints. All BTC will also need to be fully backed.

2021-08-22 21:48:27 OKEx, a crypto exchange, has announced that it will be launching a fund worth $10M in order to develop GameFi projects.
GameFi is concerned with play-to-earn gaming, where players can make money through financial mechanisms that have been integrated into online games.
The $10M will come from OKEx's BlockDream Ventures fund, which is worth $100M and focussed on blockchain projects.
OKEx has also planned a hackathon, BUIDL IN METAFORCE, where the winners will be given $1M worth of funding.

2021-08-22 17:28:38 VanEck and ProShares, two asset managers, have both withdrawn their applications for ETH ETFs less than two days after submitting them.
VanEck and ProShares made filings to the SEC for an 'Ethereum Strategy ETF' and an 'Ether Strategy ETF' respectively, both of which appear to have been concerned with allowing ETH exposure through futures contracts, amongst other things. However, according to their legal representatives, both companies have decided not to go forward with the endeavour.

2021-08-22 13:13:00 Binance has revealed that it will be instating new KYC conditions for its users.
New users will have to complete Intermediate Verification before they can gain access to the exchange. Meanwhile, existing users without verification will only be able to do certain actions, such as making withdrawals and cancelling orders.
The policy change regarding existing customers will be introduced in phases, in an attempt to reduce disruptions. In order to prevent their access from being limited, existing users have been advised to complete the KYC verifications as soon as possible.

2021-08-21 21:36:30 Coinbase has revealed that it will be launching in Japan. In order to do this, the exchange will be teaming up with banking giant MUFG.
First to launch will be retail trading products, which will include a suite five of the biggest assets. Coinbase will then be concerned with introducing localised versions of international services, including advanced trading and Coinbase for Institutions.
Meanwhile, MUFG will be ensuring that a speedy fiat on-and-off ramp, dubbed MUFG Quick Deposit, is available to Japanese users.

ElonMusk the suspended BTC payments for Tesla, precipitating a fall in Bitcoin’s price.

2021-08-20 11:57:23 United Wholesale Mortgage, a US mortgage lender, has revealed its intentions to allow payments in BTC this year, followed by other forms of crypto.
CEO Mat Ishbia gave the time frame of later this quarter or around the start of Q4. After BTC payments have been established, UWM is likely to focus its attention on ETH.
Ishbia emphasised that the firm wasn't making any promises yet, but that they had every intention of being at the forefront of technological developments including crypto.

2021-08-20 07:59:55 Crypto.com has introduced a function that will allow users in over 60 countries to bank transfer US dollars from their funds.
The new feature has been made possible by Crypto.com's partnership with Circle, as withdrawals will be made using USDC. Institutional customers will be permitted to receive dollars on a 1:1 basis when they make a withdrawal from their USDC wallet.
