31% of Cardano SPO Nodes Have Upgraded to v1.35.3

75
% of nodes must be on the newest version before the Vasil hard fork can be implemented. A reported 31% of Cardano’s staking pool operator (SPO) nodes are now running the protocol’s latest software. The update fixes a critical bug found in Cardano’s previous implementation, which raised questions about whether the network’s upcoming Vasil hard fork should be postponed.

According to data from PoolTool, about 55% of nodes are still operating on v1.34.1. To be ready for the upgrade to Vasil, 75% of SPO nodes must be on the newest version. Other pools including PRIDE pool and Cardano Blockhouse have also confirmed a transition to the new version. “We are ready for Vasil” stated the latter. Vasil is part of Cardano’s third development epoch, and is set to improve the blockchain’s usability and scalability. The upgrade was originally slated for June, but has been slapped with multiple delays since.

SEC Doubles Down on Bid Blocking Ripple From Obtaining Evidence in XRP Lawsuit

The
U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is doubling down on its bid to block Ripple Labs from obtaining critical evidence in the lawsuit filed against the payments firm alleging they sold XRP as an unregistered security. The speech of interest relates to remarks that Hinman made in 2018 stating that Ethereum (ETH) was not a security.

According to the SEC, the speech drafts Ripple is seeking are documents only meant for internal consumption and are therefore irrelevant to the lawsuit that alleges XRP is an unregistered security. In a recent court filing, the SEC says that it is offering more support to its earlier objection that seeks to block an order compelling the regulatory agency to reveal the draft of a speech made by its former Director of Corporate Finance, William Hinman. The SEC says that even if the speech drafts were relevant to the case.

Charles Hoskinson Says Cardano Is Still His "Greatest Passion"

In
a recent Twitter thread, Input Output CEO Charles Hoskinson says that Cardano remains his “greatest passion.”Hoskinson claims that he’s “not going anywhere,” underscoring his commitment to the project. The cryptocurrency mogul believes that Cardano could potentially change the lives of “billions” of people.

Hoskinson claims that he’s frustrated with the fact that there’s no organization for members of the Cardano community that would represent their “needs and desires.” “I would have done things dramatically differently with my current knowledge had I gotten a do-over, he writes. Earlier this week, Hoskinson urged stake pool operators to upgrade their nodes to version 1.35.3, which provides full capabilities for the upcoming upgrade.

Cardano developer reveals bug in node version 1.35.2

Cardano
(ADA) developer Adam Dean in an August 18 Twitter thread, revealed a bug in Cardano node version 1.35.2 that caused the collapse of Cardano Testnet. Dean continued that the bug created incompatible forks and reduced chain density. The bug was discovered by an on-chain investigation by Cardano Operator supporters’ pool, ATADA Stakepool, and Pooltooll.

Dean highlighted how most of the operators had upgraded “to 1.35.2 on testnet to simulate a Vasil HFC event,” leading to version 1.35.3 not being in sync with the chain. According to Dean, version 1.35.3 is now being tested on “two ‘new’ testnets that do not have a block history like testnet (having gone through all previous Cardano HFC events there) or a simulation of multi-node-version blocks on the chain.” Dean mentioned that the “rushing” of the Vasil hard fork makes him uneasy. He added that the Cardano network was close to hitting a “nuclear rock.”

Cardano network adds 5 smart contracts daily as Vasil upgrade edges closer

Since
the Cardano (ADA) network reached 3,000 smart contracts at the start of August, the decentralized finance (DeFi) network has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, Cardano, over the last month, has onboarded five new Plutus Scripts (a Cardano-based smart contracts platform) daily, going from 2,927 on July 20 to 3,092 on August 18.

With the latest Vasil hard fork on the horizon, the network continues to see the benefits of the Alonso update in September 2021, which included the incorporation of smart contract functionality, making the blockchain capable of being faster and more scalable, as well as providing a DeFi application development platform and programmability to the developer community. After reassuring the crypto community that the Vasil hard fork wouldn’t be delayed any longer, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson gave another update to the highly anticipated network upgrade.

Ripple CTO lashes back at Vitalik Buterin for his dig at XRP

In
a discussion that started around two Ontario crypto exchanges’ recent 30,000-Canadian-dollar limit on altcoins purchases — which excluded Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) — Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin took a dig at XRP, which Ripple chief technology officer David Schwartz didn't take very kindly.

Buterin, in a response to a tweet, lauded the Ethereum community’s pushback against regulations that privilege ETH over other cryptocurrencies. David Hoffman, founder of decentralized media and education platform Bankless, responded to Buterin and said he wouldn’t have minded if they had restricted XRP. Buterin joined in on the XRP bashing, claiming, "They already lost their right to protection when they tried to throw us under the bus as ‘China-controlled.'”

Ripple, SBI Remit Join Hands to Enable Real-Time Payments Between Japan and Thailand

Talking
about its growing footprints in Asia-Pacific, Ripple said it’s possible due to progressive crypto regulations and business innovations. Japan’s SBI Remit will use RippleNet Technology to enable instant money transfers between Japan and Thailand. The new partnership also brings Thailand’s Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) on board, Ripple said in a PR on Tuesday.

As part of the arrangement, both SBI Remit and SCB will use Ripple’s enterprise blockchain solution RippleNet to process real-time remittance services. Right now, Thai recipients use local agents to retrieve cash sent by their relatives in Japan. Announcing the news of the new partnership on Twitter, Ripple underlined progressive crypto regulation and business innovations in Asia-Pacific as significant contributors to the growth of the company in this market.

Judge grants Ripple’s request to review videos of SEC officials

A
judge had earlier dismissed the regulator’s motion to revoke the amici curiae status granted to XRP holders. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) suffered a major setback as Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn granted Ripple’s appeal to serve subpoenas and authenticate videos of public remarks made by the regulatory agency’s officials.

The payment giant is set to serve two subpoenas to at least seven SEC officials. The Judge presiding over the high-profile case Netburn snubbed the SEC’s claim that the defendants were trying to reopen fact discovery. The legal battle between the SEC and Ripple shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The SEC slapped the blockchain tech firm and two of its senior execs with a lawsuit in December 2020. The financial regulator had accused them of trading $1.3 billion worth of XRP tokens as securities without the registration of the assets.

Cardano founder on Vasil: ‘The ship is steady and brighter days are ahead’

Two
weeks after reassuring the cryptocurrency community that the Vasil hard fork wouldn’t be delayed any longer, Cardano (ADA) founder Charles Hoskinson gave another update to the highly anticipated network upgrade. Specifically, Hoskinson said that “Vasil is looking good,” adding that he was “pretty happy with v. 1.35.3,” referring to the node that he believes could be the final version for the hard fork after trying out nodes.

Moreover, the Cardano founder also added that the “testers are pretty happy with it as well,” discovering no major issues that would derail the process. That said, Hoskinson admitted that “it’s easy to get lost in the forest and not really understand the broader implications and themes of things.” However, “the ship is steady, and that’s what a cryptocurrency should be, and that’s what a blockchain ecosystem should be.”.
