Jordan Belfort, an American entrepreneur, known to public as The Wolf of Wall Street, has purchased Cryptopunk №6033 for 102.49 ETH (~$423k) thus entering the NFT space.

Belfort further emphasized his love for the NFT space. Belfort’s interest in the NFT space seemingly started in October following a series of tweets outlining his interest in NFTs and potential collaborations with both Solana and Ethereum-based NFT projects.

Since then, Belfort has ramped up his participation in the NFT space and has committed to start his own NFT project – a collection of artwork, that is according to Belfort, inspired by The Wolf of Wall Street movie and his life.

HENI has presented the second NFT collection, this time made by JR, a prominent artist, an Oscar-nominated filmmaker, TED Prize winner, and one of Time's 100 most influential people in 2018.

The project was launched with the installation of a large-scale steel sculpture in front of the Pyramid of Khafre in Giza, Egypt (2570 BC, or 4,591 years ago). The artwork has been divided into 4,591 Greetings from Giza NFTs, each showing a unique detail of the work made up of black and white shapes.

NFTs differ in rarities: a unique combination of size, dots, detail and a section. Only 16% of the 4,591 works contain a hieroglyph rarity - a hidden message from the artist commemorating works of Egyptologist Sir Alan Gardiner.

What is NFT?

NFT is a "non-fungible token”.

We guess it didn't make things easier to understand So first we define fungible and non-fungible.

Fungible” refers to something interchangeable with one another, for example, US dollars or Bitcoins. $1 is traded for an equal $1. Both bills represent the same value. One Bitcoin is always equal in value to another Bitcoin. That’s fungibility.

Non-fungible on the other hand is something unique, irreplaceable. Hence there are no equal NFTs, same as there are no two snowflakes alike. Imagine, for example, your favourite car. There are many of the same model, but each of them is unique and irreplaceble.

What makes two perfectly similar pictures, tweets, documents, articles, or songs unique if they minted as NFT? Next time we will glance at NFTs within the blockchain and explain the technicalities behind the scene of creating an NFT.

2021-10-21 17:51:46 Lobus Starts NFT Platform

Throughout the art world's history, artists and galleries split an initial sale fee of 50/50. When the piece is resold at auction, or through private art dealers or collectors, the artist receives nothing, which in some cases means millions of dollars lost for the artist.

Several years ago Sarah Wendell Sherrill and Lori Hotz (both Christie’s alumni) established an artists’ equity management platform - Lobus, which allows artists to self-manage their assets and essentially represents their own bank. The platform manages $7 billion in assets for clients such as the Rothko family, Louis Vuitton Foundation, and Gagosian.

Today Lobus implements NFTs in its work by certifying authentication of physical work and building an artist’s ownership into that certificate. This means that every time the piece resells, the artist will receive a fraction of the sale.

On Lobus, this will be possible through a new blockchain-based marketplace that the company is launching this week. There will also be new tools available to artists, such as smart contracts with equity and royalty capabilities.

This model already exists on the blockchain with digital artwork, but it has yet to cross over to the traditional art world in a meaningful way. Adopting a blockchain and starting to attach artists’ ownership to what we know as royalty and resell rights, can create a healthier art market with the artists at the center of it.
