Binary Punks are the full Crypto Punks collection manually converted one by one into binary form.

Launched in October 2021, and when reaching the first 5000, the last 5000 were airdropped on Christmas Day. They come with a physical version of the Punks, a specially boxed acrylic desktop piece with hand signed and numbered certificates (airdropped punks must purchase).


"Vcc, the artist of DegenerApes, laughing said I should recreate Crypto Punks in Binary. I said that’s a great idea, he back tracked, ‘no no no, I was only joking that’s a massive amount of work’. So 6 weeks later of 18-20 hour days, creating each Binary Punk, manually converted one by one, I launched.

It went really well, it was a large collection on Fantom, so it was fantastic to mint so many.

We were originally on Ethereum, but the gas fees made borrowing and lending too costly [...] the team decided to test out Fantom. We never left, it was a breath of fresh air!"

2023-01-04 22:04:45 Fantom’s latest governance proposal has passed, bringing gas monetization to successful dApps

Along with optimizing demand for block space, this implementation rewards quality creators on Fantom in a sustainable way, using a methodology similar to affiliate incentives.

In addition, gas monetization will benefit Fantom's ecosystem of builders by introducing a new revenue source: monetizing the volume of transactions generated by their dApps.

This serves the goal of attracting quality developer talent to ensure a healthy, sustainable network.

dApp gas monetization takes the framework of a revenue model that already works in Web2 (ad monetization) and adjusts it to incentivize developers building on the Fantom network. It is a powerful tool to attract and retain high-performing dApps.

This is accomplished by reducing the burn-rate of 20% to 5% and redirecting 15% towards gas monetization.

Please note figures could increase/decrease in the future through a separate governance vote.

As described in the current eligibility criteria forum, the requirements are as follows:

• Completed 1,000,000 or more transactions
• 3 months or above spent on the Fantom Opera network

Please note, gas monetization could incentivize spam, clunky dApps, & other extraction loopholes.

Changes are expected around the criteria as we learn more about the effectiveness of certain requirements & will be made at the Foundation's discretion based on community input.

This successful governance proposal will complement the next phase of growth on #Fantom!

By introducing long-term monetization tools, Fantom can create sticky network effects necessary to attract high-caliber builders and creators

Fantom's first Gitcoin funding round has been a huge success. Our beta round saw nearly 300,000 $FTM donated by 16,344 unique contributors across 85+ projects.

Over the next weeks, results will be finalized & matching completed.

As a beta round, this round was a way to test functionality and mechanisms.

With that, safeguards were put in place from the start in order to protect projects against those attempting to game the quadratic voting mechanism.

Matching distribution will be carefully reviewed & analyzed by the Gitcoin and Fantom teams.
