Surgeon Created NFT From X-Ray and Now He's Threatened with Trial
Emmanuel Massmejean, an orthopedic surgeon from France, wanted to sell an X-ray image of a concert-goer who was injured in the 2015 terrorist attack on the Bataclan music hall. But the doctor tried to sell the image as a digital collector's item without getting the patient's consent.
The NFT file contained a picture of the patient's forearm with a bullet from a Kalashnikov assault rifle, and it was sold on OpenSea for $2,776.
The incident was confirmed the other day by Martin Hirsch, head of the Paris public hospital. He called the surgeon's actions "undignified and reprehensible”.
When asked to comment on the act, Masmejian said the move was a big mistake. He regretted not seeking the patient's permission to do so. As for the patient herself, her identity has not been disclosed. What is known, however, is that her boyfriend was killed in the Bataclan attack.
After the incident, the association of victims of terrorist attacks "Life for Paris" published a statement. In it, they say that they "stand with the victim of the attack, who has now become a victim of stupidity ... on the part of a 'doctor' who has apparently forgotten his code of ethics."So, we advise you, in the course of your writing, not to overstep your bounds!
