2022-01-11 19:55:22 Today we are introducing the Goldfinch Protocol token, GFI https://medium.com/goldfinch-fi/introducing-the-goldfinch-protocol-token-gfi-e09579fd9740.

This is a major milestone for the community! The GFI token is a core component of the Goldfinch Protocol that serves many functions. The main function right now is participation in Community Governance. Other functions may soon include backer staking, auditor staking and voting, community grants, and participant incentives.

The introduction of GFI includes several significant updates:

1) The GFI token has been deployed to Ethereum at this address: https://etherscan.io/token/0xdab396ccf3d84cf2d07c4454e10c8a6f5b008d2b.

2) The protocol is now governed by the community via the Goldfinch Council and the community can actively participate in governance at https://gov.goldfinch.finance/. Snapshot voting is also live at https://snapshot.org/#/goldfinch.eth.

3) An exciting aspect of Goldfinch's governance is that it uses quadratic voting (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadratic_voting). By using UID (an NFT for ID) to prevent sybil attacks, Goldfinch is able to be the first protocol to use quadratic voting with entirely on-chain data!

4) GFI tokens have been allocated to over 13K participants in the Goldfinch protocol, including retroactive distributions for Liquidity Providers in the Senior Pool, and Flight Academy participants. You can see and claim GFI distributions at https://app.goldfinch.finance/gfi.

5) Liquidity mining is live for the Senior Pool, effective immediately. To receive GFI distributions through Senior Pool liquidity mining, you will need to stake your FIDU. You now can do this at https://app.goldfinch.finance/pools/senior. Additionally, there will be retroactive distributions for existing Backers who have already supplied to Borrower pools. This is not yet live, but we expect the community to introduce and vote on a proposal for this in the coming months.

This comes on the heels of the community’s tremendous progress over the past year towards solving the crucial missing piece in DeFi of loans without collateral. 

Active loans on the protocol doubled every two months in 2021, up 154X from $250K a year ago to now $39M that is financing 200K+ borrowers across 18 countries.
