2023-04-02 15:54:01 Uniswap v3 code free to fork as BSL expires

Developers are now allowed to fork Uniswap v3 protocol as its Business Source License (BSL) expired on April 1, shows protocol documentation. The expiration was a much-anticipated event within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, enabling developers to deploy their own decentralized exchange (DEX).

The BSL license lasts for a limited period before becoming completely open source. The purpose is to protect the author’s right to profit from their creations. Uniswap v3’s license was released in 2021 for two years, preventing its code from commercial use. A new license called a “General Public License” now applies to the protocol.

To fork the code, developers will be required to use an “Additional Use Grant” — a production exemption meant to accommodate both the needs of open-source and commercial developers.

2023-04-02 14:22:01 US Government Plans to Sell Over 41,000 Bitcoins Confiscated from Silk Road Hacker

The U.S. government, one of the largest holders of bitcoin, plans to sell 41,490 BTC in 2023, according to a court filing submitted in the case of James Zhong’s sentencing. The government made the historic bitcoin seizure in November 2022 when it confiscated over 50,000 BTC from Zhong. The defendant pleaded guilty “to committing wire fraud in September 2012 when he unlawfully obtained over 50,000 bitcoin from the Silk Road dark web internet marketplace.”

According to onchain analytics firm Glassnode, the sale of 9,861 BTC was detected, or at least the period of time when it was sent to a major exchange prior to selling. “Of the bitcoin forfeited in the Ulbricht case, there remains approximately 41,490.72 BTC, which the government expects to be liquidated in four more batches over the course of this calendar year,” the filing adds.

2023-04-01 16:47:00 More than 3,600 Bitcoin ATMs went offline to record largest monthly decline

Contradicting the growing global Bitcoin adoption rate, physical ATMs dedicated to fiat-crypto conversions are on the decline. In March alone, 3,627 crypto ATMs were removed from the network, bringing down the total ATMs to 33,727.

In the decade since the first Bitcoin ATM was launched on Oct. 29, 2013, the net change of cryptocurrency machines installed and removed monthly remained positive most times — implying that total crypto ATMs worldwide were steadily increasing. However, the trend is reversing, according to data from Coin ATM Radar.

crypto ATM installations declined for four months between September 2022 and March 2023. However, with 3,627 crypto ATMs going down last month, March 2023 stands out as the month with the largest monthly decline.
