Mastercard to allow 2.9B cardholders to make direct NFT purchases

payments for NFTs were first announced in association with Coinbase’s latest NFT marketplace in January. International payment processing giant Mastercard is expanding its payment network for nonfungible token (NFT) markets and Web3.

The financial service provider announced that it has been working on expanding their payment networks to NFTs over the past year. The firm has partnered with a number of leading NFT marketplaces to allow 2.9 billion cardholders to directly make NFT purchases without buying crypto first. Currently, users need to buy crypto to bid on and buy NFTs. However, with the latest Mastercard partnership, billions of cardholders can now bypass the process of buying a transferring crypto to NFT marketplaces.

US Forever21 collaborates with Barbie for collection in metaverse

American fashion retailer Forever21 has collaborated with the global toy brand, Barbie, for a limited edition collection which will be available simultaneously in-store, online and in metaverse on Forever21 shop city on Roblox.

The collection includes a range of vintage styled apparel items, swim, sleepwear, beauty, and accessories as well as home décor, inspired by Barbie Dreamhouse. Forever21’s Roblox experience was created in partnership with the Virtual Brand Group (VBG), a web3 fashion designer, game developer and retailer that creates immersive metaverse experiences. The Forever21 x Barbie collection replicates its real-life inspiration and campaign using Roblox’s latest layered clothing technology for 3D clothing that fits any avatar body type. ’Oréal-owned NYX Cosmetics has partnered with The Sandbox metaverse to launch an diverse avatar collection sporting various make-up looks, according to a report published by Ledger Insights. The initiative is timed to coincide with Pride Month but its representation will extend beyond the LGBTQ+ community to other minorities, some 8,430 avatars will be up for sale via The Sandbox’s metaverse in total.

The NFT space has been charged with being less inclusive and diverse than you’d expect from a new medium and the project is designed to tackle this by widening representation. In addition, the French beauty brand recruited female NFT artists to create the collection in a bid to address the gender disparity in the industry.

The Sandbox Publisher Animoca Brands’ Reports $5B in Crypto, Cash Reserves

Animoca
Brands, the Hong Kong-based digital entertainment and crypto games publisher, released its key unaudited financial results for the last three months of 2021 and the first four months of 2022. In January, Animoca Brands was valued at over $5 billion after its latest funding round led by Liberty City Ventures.

Animoca Brands reported that in the past seven months, it earned over $721 million from token sales and NFT sales, including secondary sales and other non-blockchain activities. The firm’s other income over the same period included gains and losses of investments and digital assets holdings, which included a cash balance of approximately $98 million and cryptocurrency holdings of about $211 million in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), USDC, USDT, and Binance's BUSD.
