American food giant Coca-Cola has unveiled a new product called Coca-Cola Zero Sugar Byte which was apparently born in the Metaverse and tastes like pixels.

The drink’s gimmick as a physical drink from the Metaverse includes the fact that it comes with an Island Code that unlocks special maps and four mini games on the popular Fortnite video game by Epic Games. Epic recently scored a $2 billion investment from Sony and LEGO to build its own part of the Metaverse, although whether Fortnite is actually a metaverse right now is debatable.

The product line will launch on May 2 and will only be available in the United States, Latin America, and China.

“It is a natural extension for the future of gaming that it will expand to involve new areas such as cloud gaming and NFTs,” said Sega producer Masayoshi Kikuchi.

Japanese gaming giant Sega is looking to integrate cloud technology and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) as part of its new “Super Game” project to connect different games to each other.

The Super Game initiative is set to roll out over the next five years and will reportedly see the development of a wide range of new cross-platform triple A-grade games. The firm is said to be weighing up an investment of around $800 million into the project.

Fintech firm Ripple is expanding its presence in the crypto scene by developing a new standard which’ll allow for complex NFT applications to exist on $XRP Ledger. The new standard is called XLS-20, which, according to the firm, will help “developers build a more advanced and innovative NFT application”. Solana NFTs are seeing a significant gain in volume. In the last 24 hours, the NFT sales volume on the Solana blockchain has hit over $9.2 million — an increase of 51.5% — according to analytics firm CryptoSlam.

It comes after a drop was seen in the trading volume of Solana NFTs following the March 30 announcement that OpenSea would integrate the blockchain when OpenSea announced the Solana integration. On April 6, the day before the integration was live, trading volume decreased by 34.4%.

Ethereum is still the top network when it comes to NFTs, with $49.4 million in sales made in the last 24 hours.
