The mark price is an estimate of the true value of a contract (fair price) when compared to its actual trading price (last price). The mark price calculation prevents unfair liquidations that may happen when the market is highly volatile.

So while the Index Price is related to the price of spot markets, the mark price represents the fair value of a perpetual futures contract. Typically, the mark price is based on the Index Price and the funding rate - and is also an essential part of the “unrealised PnL” calculation.

Paxful, a global peer-to-peer Bitcoin platform, has announced the appointment of Roshan Dharia as the new Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. This comes after a brief shutdown period of the exchange prior to the departure of Co-Founder and former CEO Ray Youssef.

According to a press release sent to Bitcoin Magazine, Dharia will be responsible for strengthening operations and exploring strategic alternatives for the company. With over eight years of experience, Dharia
expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating,

"It's a great honor to become CEO of Paxful. Over the last eight years, Paxful has been a pioneer in establishing the real use cases of Bitcoin and helping millions of people in the process."

In order to be able to mine Bitcoins in the current competitive scenario, one has to invest in specialised mining hardware and programs. These mining programs (software) are not directly related to the Bitcoin Core and are executed in parallel to try and mine Bitcoin blocks. A miner may choose to work alone (solo miner) or in groups (pool miner).

While the solo miners’ full nodes make use of their own copy of the blockchain, pool miners work together, each one contributing to his own computational resources (hash power). In a mining pool, only the administrator of the pool is required to run a full node - which can be referred to as a pool miner’s full node.

If the value of your collateral falls below the maintenance margin, your futures account may be subject to liquidation. Depending on the exchange you use, the liquidation occurs in different ways.

In general, the liquidation price changes according to the risk and leverage of each user (based on their collateral and net exposure). The larger the total position, the higher the required margin.

To avoid liquidation, you can either close your positions before the liquidation price is reached or add more funds to your collateral balance - causing the liquidation price to move further away from the current market price.

Crypto hardware wallet provider Ledger will delay plans to launch its private key recovery service after receiving major backlash following its announcement last week. 

The controversy – which rose questions about the safety and trustworthiness of Ledger devices more broadly – has inspired the company to accelerate its open-sourcing roadmap. 

The service was widely criticized for exposing that Ledger could potentially take users’ private keys from their devices with a malicious firmware update. Concerns swelled later that week when Ledger Support claimed (in a now-deleted tweet) that customers have always “trusted” Ledger not to release such malicious code “whether you knew it or not.”

Essentially, a listening node or super node is a full node that is publicly visible. It communicates and provides information to any other node that decides to establish a connection with it.

Hence, a super node is basically a redistribution point that may act both as a data source and as a communication bridge.

A reliable super node typically runs 24/7 and has several established connections, transmitting the blockchain history and transactions data to multiple nodes around the world.

For that reason, a super node will probably require more computational power and a better internet connection when compared to a full node that is hidden.

Maintenance margin is the minimum amount of collateral you must hold to keep trading positions open. If your margin balance drops below this level, you will either receive a margin call (asking you to add more funds to your account) or be liquidated.

In other words, the initial margin is the value you commit when opening a position, and the maintenance margin refers to the minimum balance you need to keep the positions open.

The maintenance margin is a dynamic value that changes according to market price and to your account balance (collateral).
