Open interest is the total number of futures contracts held by market participants at the end of the trading day. It is used as an indicator to determine market sentiment and the strength behind price trends.

Unlike the total issued shares of a company, which typically remain constant, the number of outstanding futures contracts varies from day to day.

Open interest is calculated by adding all the contracts from opened trades and subtracting the contracts when a trade is closed.

According to a press release from FTX earlier today, the LedgerX deal was agreed upon after a comprehensive sales process as part of the Bahamas-based exchange’s Chapter 11 proceedings that included multiple bidders.

The total proceeds from this transaction is expected to be approximately $50 million.

Court filings show that a sale hearing was initially scheduled for April 12, but was postponed two days ahead of the hearing.

The deal is subject to approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and the U.S. Commodities and Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)

The most obvious and basic solution to the problem outlined above is to reduce the number of participants confirming and adding to the network data in exchange for greater scale and speed.

But doing so would lead to a weakening of decentralisation with control handed to a smaller number of participants.

And it would also lead to a weakening of security as fewer players means a higher chance of attacks.

Maintenance margin is the minimum amount of collateral you must hold to keep trading positions open. If your margin balance drops below this level, you will either receive a margin call (asking you to add more funds to your account) or be liquidated. 🩵

Most cryptocurrency exchanges will do the latter.

In other words, the initial margin is the value you commit when opening a position, and the maintenance margin refers to the minimum balance you need to keep the positions open.

The maintenance margin is a dynamic value that changes according to market price and to your account balance (collateral).

Two years after becoming a public company in the US, Coinbase has indicated that its exit from the country is not out of the question.  

While many agree that other regions are set to offer more crypto regulatory clarity than the US, some industry watchers are split about the likelihood that the country’s largest crypto exchange could exit its current home.

CEO Brian Armstrong said during the Innovate Finance Global Summit Tuesday that as crypto regulation in the US remains unclear, “anything is on the table, including relocating,” The Telegraph reported. 

The executive reportedly added that it could seek to invest outside of the country where it is currently based, noting that the UK is Coinbase’s second largest market.

Analysts typically use open interest to confirm the strength of a trend. Increasing open interest is typically a confirmation of the trend whereas decreasing open interest can be a signal that the trend is losing strength.

The idea is that traders are supporting the trend by entering the market that increases the open interest. As traders lose faith in the trend they exit the market and open interest declines.
Open interest data is published at the end of each day. Additionally, every Friday afternoon, the CFTC publishes a report called the Commitment of Traders.
