Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and studio Miramax have settled a lawsuit over non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, based on Pulp Fiction. A new court filing indicates the sides will request to dismiss the suit in the coming weeks, and they offered a joint statement, as reported by Deadline.

Tarantino introduced his NFT lineup last year at the height of NFT mania, promising each one would unlock a “secret” about his 1994 film. Tarantino said the NFTs were linked with media from the screenplay, which he retained rights to, but Miramax sued on the grounds that NFTs constituted an “emerging technology” that it could contractually profit from. Had it proceeded, the case could have set a precedent for future NFTs based on films or other media. Warner Bros.

Puma debuted its first-ever metaverse experience, Black Station, which features NFTs that can be redeemed for limited-edition physical sneakers, according to a press release. The experience is part of the sports brand’s “Futrograde” show during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

Black Station includes a digital lobby space with three portals. The first two portals are accessible now and unveil the Nitro NFRNO and Nitro Fastroid sneakers which are linked to the brand’s recent NFT Nitropass mint. Consumers who minted a Nitropass can receive two NFTs, one tied to physical products and one to a custom experience. Following the Futrograde show, minters can burn their product-claimed NFT and claim physical sneakers.

Japan’s cabinet has handed out non-fungible token (NFT) awards – in a new first for the nation’s government. The tokens were distributed to the local government authority winners of a nationwide digitization competition and represent “digital certificates” of achievement, CoinPost reported.

The awards were handed out by the Cabinet Secretariat, a government agency that its headed by the nation’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, at an event that saw the likes of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida attend. The tokens were issued on the Ethereum blockchain network, but made use of Proof of Attendance Protocol (POAP) technology. Typically, POAP-type NFTs are used at exclusive events and are usually minted on the xDai chain. This means that the Secretariat’s NFTs cannot be traded on secondary markets.

French luxury design brand Hermes is reportedly mulling over entering Web 3.0 after submitting a trademark application encompassing cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and the metaverse to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently.

The trademark includes downloadable software to view, store and manage virtual goods, digital collectibles, cryptocurrencies and NFTs “for usage in online worlds,” according to the filing. It also registered trademarks for retail shop services displaying virtual goods, offering an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of virtual goods, hosting fashion and trade events in virtual, augmented or mixed reality environments, and representing virtual goods, US media reported.
