On May 9, Madonna released her own NFT series, titled Mother of Creation. The collection will feature digitally rendered videos that recast her as a nude woman giving birth to flora, fauna, and technology. The NFT collection will be the result of a yearlong collaboration with the digital artist known as Beeple.

From Wednesday, May 11, to Friday, May 13, the NFT collection will be auctioned for charity through the online marketplace SuperRare.

According to the CryptoPunks Bot, a Twitter account that reports the latest bids and sales on CrytoPunks NFT activity reported that 8 of the last 10 CryptoPunks that were sold have been sold at a loss.

Today on May 9, CryptoPunks #273, which was bought six months ago for $1,026,399, sold for $139,530, almost 80% cheaper than what it was worth a month ago.

The 8th rarest virtual land piece by Yuga Labs Otherside metaverse project, Otherdeed #59906 sold for a record-breaking 625 ETH ($1.5 million) on the NFT marketplace X2Y2 on May 8.

The seller, "brickandmorty.eth" booked a profit of over $1.49 million, having minted the NFT a week ago for 305 ApeCoin (APE) worth around $6,000 at the time.

Instagram announced that NFTs are coming to its platform, where it will support integrations for Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and Flow. As reported by CoinDesk, the pilot version will be available as soon as May 9.

The pilot program will feature a small group of NFT collectors based in the U.S. Instagram intends to support widely used crypto wallets such as Metamask as well.

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal claimed a market collapse in the NFT space with a 92% decline in transaction volume from September last year based on a narrow focus on specific data from Nonfungible.

However, according to Nonfungible's Q1 2022 NFT market report, the market had shown a dip of only a 4.6% decrease in QoQ (Quarter over Quarter) volume, where the NFT market did experience a slight downturn in qualified trading volume, dipping from 4Q 2021's roughly $8.25 billion.

The major cryptocurrency exchange Kraken will be launching its own NFT marketplace within a few months.

The new platform will offer to subsidize Ethereum (ETH-USD) transaction costs known as the gas fees, which sometimes can be worth more than the NFT itself. It is yet unknown how the process will work, but the new marketplace by Kraken is advertised as "zero gas fees for trades on Kraken NFT."

One of the most famous sports drink powerhouses, Gatorade, filed an application with the USPTO on April 27 to create virtual beverage products in the metaverse.

Announced on May 3, Josh Gerban, trademark attorney for the company, posted via a Tweet that virtual beverage products will soon be available. However, details have not been released yet.
