PayPal users will soon be able to enjoy crypto functionalities. During PayPal’s Q2 2021 investor update call on 28 July 2021, CEO Dan Schulman announced that PayPal's new wallet “super app" was code complete and is now proceeding with the ramping process.

In addition to being equipped with crypto functionalities, the wallet will be uniquely driven by advanced AI and machine learning capabilities.

So, what's the story behind PayPal's crypto venture?

Back in October 2020, PayPal announced its entry into the crypto space by disclosing its plans to allow eligible customers to use cryptocurrencies for trading and payments. Living up to this promise, PayPal's mobile payment arm Venmo launched its crypto trading services in April 2021.

By the end of June 2021, Venmo's crypto trading service has processed USD58 billion worth of payment transactions undertaken by 76 million active accounts.
