Chancellor Rishi Sunak has instructed the Royal Mint to create a non-fungible token (NFT) later this year as an “emblem” of the UK’s goal to become a “global cryptoasset technology hub”.

John Glen, economic secretary for the Treasury, confirmed the department’s upcoming NFT venture as part of a wider cryptocurrency push, with the government unveiling plans to legislate stablecoins – a cryptocurrency that is pegged to a fiat currency.

The move could see stablecoins brought “within the payments regulatory perimeter” and used as an alternative means of payment, the government said. It comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny of the cryptocurrency space in the UK.

“I’m announcing today the chancellor has asked the Royal Mint to create a non-fungible token,” Glen said at the Innovate Finance Global Summit in London

According to the U.S. Government’s civil forfeiture complaint, law enforcement agents identified a South Florida resident raking in millions by using an on-line alias to make over 100,000 sales of illicit items and hacked online account information on several of the world’s largest Dark Web marketplaces.

South Florida resident sold hacked online account information for popular services such as HBO, Netflix, and Uber, among others, and accessed the Dark Web by utilizing the TOR (The Onion Router) Network. The Onion Router Network is a special network of computers distributed around the world designed to anonymize a user’s internet

If you’re in an NFT Discord, be careful of the links you click. A new scam sees hackers crack into NFT Discord bots to trick users into sending cryptocurrency to “mint” fake NFTs.

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Nyoki, and Shamanz have all tweeted warnings to users that their Twitter bots have been hacked and are advertising new NFTs that are completely fake. Instead of taking users to legitimate NFT minting sites, the link directs users' crypto to a pair of crypto wallets that have been busily laundering their ill-gotten gains.

Hackers are essentially performing a phishing scam, using the Discord bots to disguise the fake links as legitimate new offerings. Vice has confirmed that the links direct users to two crypto wallets that have been labeled Fake_Phishing5519 and Fake_Phishing5520 on blockchain explorer Etherscan, and that both wallets have been experiencing extensive activity.

Non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace OpenSea has teamed up with crypto-focused payment solutions provider MoonPay in order to integrate direct credit and debit card payments on its platform.

Per the announcement, the partnership would allow OpenSea customers to purchase NFTs via MoonPay’s NFT Checkout service using payment methods such as MasterCard, Visa, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.

The integration of these new payment methods will be implemented in several phases, MoonPay explained, and will allow OpenSea users to “easily purchase an NFT using a debit or credit card, sidestepping the need to first acquire cryptocurrency.”

Turkish prosecutors are seeking jail sentences totaling up to 40,564 years for 21 of the founders and executives of the crypto-exchange Thodex.

Thodex was part of the boom that attracted thousands of Turks who wished to protect their savings from rampant inflation and an unstable currency. Ozer stated in an unknown location in April 2021 that he would remit investors’ money and return to Turkey at a later date to face justice.

According to the indictment, total losses from the collapse of the exchange were TRY 356 million. That figure is far below the $2.6 billion estimated in a February report by Chainalysis. Based on the report, Thodex was responsible for about 90% of the global value lost to rug pulls in 2021.

It is alleged that the defendants established a criminal organization, engaged in fraud through informatics systems, and laundered proceeds from criminal activities.
