Nokia Believes the Metaverse Will Replace Smartphones in the Future

Nokia
, one of the first companies to manufacture a consumer-grade mobile phone system, now believes the metaverse will cause phones to become deprecated. These metaverse experiences will be powered by the use of virtual reality (VR) headsets and augmented reality glasses.

Nokia, one of the first manufacturers to create a mobile phone system, is predicting the fall of the mobile phone trend known today at the hands of the metaverse. While phones will still be around, metaverse experiences will be the primary form of communication in the second half of the decade. While augmented reality devices have still ways to go, Nokia believes that there will be a rise in the interest of the audience in such devices, that will power this metaverse push.

Most Metaverse business projects will be dead by 2025

CANALYS
CHANNELS FORUM The metaverse is a solution looking for a B2B problem – that problem being how to help Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg drum up billions of dollars in revenues – and it's going to fail in the not-too-distant future. That is if you believe the good folk at Canalys, who are seemingly already buffing a gravestone for Zuck's version of the internet that we recently pointed out nobody really wants.

"Is the metaverse the next digital frontier or an overhyped money pit?" asked Matthew Ball, chief analyst at Canalys, at the company's Channels Forum in Barcelona."We're in a cost-of-living crisis, people are struggling in the real world let alone in the virtual world to be able to invest in property and items and other NFTs," Ball added. As he pointed out, the world is entering more troubled economic times and some households are struggling to cope with financial outlay in the actual world.

Azuki NFT project sets record for eight most expensive skateboards ever sold

NFT
project Azuki completed an auction for eight Golden Skateboard nonfungible tokens — which will also be redeemable for physical Golden Skateboards — with the lowest and highest winning bids coming in at an even 200 ETH ($261,682.00) and 309 ETH ($404,298.69), respectively, according to its official Twitter account.

The skateboards, though currently only in digital form, are all among the most expensive skateboards ever sold — by a wide margin. Some of the costliest skateboards sold previously include Jamie Thomas' and Bob Dylan's "Blowin’ in the Wind Skateboard," which sold in a fundraiser for $38,425 in December 2012, and a Tony Hawk-owned "Beatles' Blackbird Board,".

Meta’s $10B metaverse investment is ‘not enough’ according to Animoca Brands’ Yat Siu

Yat
Siu, the co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, has a lot of thoughts about the metaverse. That’s because his company owns The Sandbox and has investments in many different web3 companies, such as OpenSea, Dapper Labs and Axie Infinity. At TechCrunch Disrupt, he shared his thoughts about Meta’s take on the metaverse.

They said they’re going to spend $10 billion a year to make the metaverse work. Well, here’s the thing — we think $10 billion is not enough for Facebook to succeed. Billions of dollars are transacted in the open metaverse space — actually much more when you consider fungible tokens. Most of the value goes to the end user, so why would I transact on something like Meta — regardless of its visuals — when I have to give half of it to the platform?

Reddit Now Has More NFT Wallets Than the OpenSea Marketplace

A
majority of Reddit Vault wallets were created just for NFT avatars. A total of 3 million wallets have now been created on the Reddit Vault. Reports are emerging that eight out of ten Reddit Vault wallets were created following the introduction of NFT avatars. The information was revealed during a TechCrunch Disrupt conference panel.

Reddit chief product officer Pali Bhat was one member of the panel who said that over 3 million Redditors had used Reddit’s Vault wallet to create crypto wallets. Bhat also pointed out that 2.5 million of those wallets were created to purchase NFT avatars. What’s interesting is the fact that the market’s biggest NFT marketplace, OpenSea, only has 2.3 million active wallets. That means Reddit potentially has more active wallets than OpenSea.

Dapper Labs allowing NFT withdrawals for users affected by EU sanctions

Dapper
Labs is now allowing users affected by the European Union's sanctions against Russia to withdraw their NBA Top Shot, NFL All Day and UFC Strike NFTs from their Dapper Wallet to a Blocto Wallet, according to an email sent to users and seen by The Block.

Circle holds custody over customer funds and because they required immediate action, we had to comply with their direction in this instance and suspend accounts with connections to Russia, but we did not close any of these accounts," the Dapper team wrote in the email. It also noted that its quick movement to remain compliant was made to prioritize the safety of the community.

Quest Pro VR headset raises privacy concerns for Meta’s future in metaverse

Meta
announced its latest VR headset, Quest Pro, which includes a new eye and facial movement tracker said to enhance digital avatar expressions and realism. The company introduced new features to enhance digital avatars, which raised privacy concerns regarding data collection.

The Quest Pro is the latest piece of VR technology released by Meta as it continues its push into the Metaverse. It utilizes five cameras inside the headset, which are positioned to watch and track a person’s facial expressions and eye movements. In addition, it has five external cameras, which will be employed in the future to track other bodily movements to mimic real-world motions. According to Meta, they will accurately and uniquely reflect a user’s emotions and expressions in real-time.
