2022-09-06 14:10:56 The Ethereum Merge is an event that will shift Ethereum from a Proof-of-Work mechanism to Proof-of-Stake. Simply put, this will drastically reduce the amount of energy consumed by Ethereum, greatly improving the chain’s sustainability in the long term.

As an owner of NFTs on Ethereum, there really isn’t much to worry about come the Merge, though. Popular marketplaces and wallets will still recognize what assets you own, and you’ll be able to continue interacting with the Ethereum NFT ecosystem as you normally would.

The one area of concern when it comes to ETH NFTs is in regard to “forked chains”. As we’ve previously discussed, there is a small faction of Ethereum users (primarily miners) who will look to split off from the main Ethereum chain post-merge, keeping their own version of the chain on Proof-of-Work. While major marketplaces like OpenSea and prominent brands like Yugalabs have publicly stated they will not support the duplicate versions of NFTs that exist on these chains.

Endstate, a high-tech footwear company, has chosen a member of the Philadelphia Eagles for its first athlete collaboration, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal. The Boston company is teaming up with Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith to create a signature sneaker.

As a two-time National Champion and Heisman Trophy winner, first-round NFL draft pick, and standout wide receiver for the Eagles, DeVonta’s on-field resume speaks for itself, but we’re equally as impressed with who he is off the field,” said Bennett Collen, CEO and co-founder of Endstate, in a statement. Endstate co-founder Stephanie Howard told the Business Journal that when the company went out looking for a collaboration partner, it wanted someone who had a powerful story to tell.

Yuga Labs, the creators of the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), and Bored Ape Kennel Club (BAKC) non-fungible token (NFT) collections, has released another video clip showcasing the Otherside metaverse. The second Otherside trailer features characters called “Kodas” and the development team says “the story continues later this Q4.”

The second trailer is somewhat of a backstory before the BAYC dubbed “Curtis” steps through the portal, while the Doors song “Break On Through” plays. The 2-minute clip features a character called a “Koda” and one of them equipped with a sword is filling up a jar with some kind of foreign liquid. The liquid reacts and a portal appears looking to remove the Koda from the mysterious jar. Two colored portals open up and the Koda gets transported into one of the portals.

Muse has made history with their ninth LP Will Of The People, marking the UK's first number 1 album to incorporate NFT technology. It is the first full-length record containing NFT (non-fungible token) elements to make the top spot, and the first new format to be added to the official albums chart since it began counting streaming data in 2015.

A fairly recent craze from the cryptocurrency world, NFTs are unique digital assets that exist on a blockchain and cannot be replicated. For clarification, if something is fungible, it is interchangeable with another good or asset - non-fungible means it is not. Last year, a piece of digital art sold for more than $69 million (£50m) at Christie's, marking the first ever sale by a major auction house of a piece of art that did not exist in physical form.

Many popular NFT projects—most notably the Bored Ape Yacht Club—grant holders the right to use their owned images to create and sell derivative artwork and products. However, there are questions over whether such IP licenses are legally durable, or if creators have even misled buyers. Venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz says it wants to help.

The VC firm today announced the release of “Can’t Be Evil” NFT licensing terms that are available for any project creators to freely use. The licenses provide an array of different approaches for NFT projects, ranging from limited personal use terms to broader licenses that let anyone use the artwork for any purpose—even if they don’t own an NFT. But the firm’s General Miles Jennings and Chris Dixon write that the licenses have been tuned for decentralized Web3 projects to remove ambiguity.

Securities and Exchange Commission regulators should move to protect investors from traders who distort the NFT market with manipulative trades — and they probably will soon. But that doesn’t stop them from trying, which makes it a glaring regulatory and enforcement issue for the industry.

In wash trading, manipulators buy and sell an asset between themselves to create the appearance that the asset is in higher demand and, therefore, worth more than it would be otherwise. With NFTs, wash trading is fairly straightforward: Imagine an investor holds $1 million in Ether (ETH). The investor mints an NFT and proceeds to sell it to themself for all the ETH they own. The transaction is then on the blockchain for $1 million in ETH.

On August 29, the digital collectibles company Veve announced that the platform has launched digital variant non-fungible token (NFT) covers from three Marvel comic book artists. Veve and Marvel detailed that the NFT drops called the Marvel Artworks collection will be limited edition, 1-of-1 releases of three Marvel comic covers featuring Spider-Man, and the Black Panther.

Marvel Entertainment continues to release products for the NFT industry with the company Veve Digital Collectibles. The two firms recently revealed plans to drop three limited edition NFTs from the Marvel Artworks collection. Veve has worked with Marvel in the past dropping Spider-Man and Captain America digital collectibles in 2021. Further, Veve has collaborated with Marvel’s competitor DC Comics and the entertainment giant Walt Disney.

2022-08-30 07:31:02 South Korea’s Science Ministry to develop ethical principles for the metaverse

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) of South Korea recently released a set of key ethical principles fundamental for growth and participation in the metaverse. The MSIT proposed eight principles to uphold while participating in the metaverse: authenticity, autonomy, reciprocity, respect for privacy, fairness, data protection, inclusiveness, and accountability.

To ensure the principles can be applied to use cases of the metaverse, the MSIT plans to gather feedback from relevant departments, experts, industries, and civic organizations to finalize the draft by the end of 2022. The MSIT also addressed growing concerns regarding how users interact online, including copyright, juvenile protection, and personal information. In July, the country announced the Digital New Deal (New Deal 2.0) plan, under which it will invest 9 trillion won to foster a ‘world-class metaverse ecosystem.’
