Two acronyms have been major trends in the world of sports marketing this past year: name, image and likeness (NIL) deals and NFTs. While NFTs have started to lag, one brand is banking on being able to lift them up with the help of rising college athletes. And, of course, a little nostalgia. NFT platform Heir is hosting a two-day event titled NFT Jam. Taking place in Atlanta on Sept. 9-10, the highlight.

Some of the top high school basketball players in the country will look to make fans at the event say “Boom shakalaka.” The list of student-athletes participating includes Elliot Cadeau, Ja’Kobe Walter, Layden Blocker, Corey Chest, Tyler McKinley and Ryan Forrest. All 18 student-athletes are signing partnership deals with Heir as a part of the brand’s NIL and Web3 brand ambassador program. The experience will launch with the Web23 House, a full day of Web3 educational programming.

NFT collections crater during “crypto winter,” some prospective buyers are looking for digital tokens that can serve as more than mere collectibles. In response, the athlete-centered NFT site Autograph is launching a new product called Signature Experiences.

On Tuesday, Autograph announced the new Signature Experiences NFT line, touting it as a way for customers to participate in a sort of Web3-enabled fan club. The company is selling 2,500 “season tickets” for its first experience, a collaboration with Brady, through its website on Sept. 8 for those who want to join the club. But the season ticket isn’t just a throwaway to get the perks; it will also adapt as Brady’s season progresses, reflecting his playing stats. The first experience will be a Brady-centered community called the Huddle.

The investment management giant Invesco has launched a metaverse fund that will invest in a myriad of startups focused on metaverse technology, a Citywire report detailed on Monday. “We will seek to capitalise on these opportunities through a highly selective, valuation-conscious approach,” Tony Roberts, Invesco’s fund manager, explained.

On Monday, Citywire’s Chris Sloley published a report explaining that the fund manager Invesco (NYSE: IVZ) launched a metaverse fund. According to the report, the Invesco metaverse fund will invest in small, medium, and large-cap companies worldwide that are dedicated to metaverse technologies like virtual worlds, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), augmented reality, play-to-earn (P2E) gaming, and artificial intelligence (AI). Sloley’s report notes that the fund will be managed by Invesco’s fund manager Tony Roberts and the deputy fund manager James McDermottroe.

NFTs from the Bored Ape Yacht Collections have their floor prices reduced to levels not seen since the early days of January 2022. This comes amid fears of massive liquidations on a platform where Bored Ape NFT owners are able to put their apes as collateral.

Non-fungible tokens from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection are going through a majorly rough patch. Apes are currently sitting on a floor price of 67 ETH across the board – something that we haven’t seen since the early days of January 2022. Unlike cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens are priced in a way where the floor price is the lowest possible price someone is willing to sell their NFTs for. Since they are non-fungible, there needs to be a buyer for each specific NFT, making the market so much more challenging in times of low liquidity.

Earlier this week was supposed to be a celebratory time for the folks at Meta, as its reality-devouring project Horizon Worlds was now available in more countries. The occasion was marked by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg himself posting a “selfie” of his in-game.

Posting over on Instagram, for those of you who scrolled through enough recommended posts to see it, is an entirely new virtual rendition of Zuckerberg. This one, I’m happy to report, does appear to contain more life essence than the last one, though it’s unclear how many souls had to be sacrificed in order to give Mark a small glint in his eye. For those keeping count, this is the fourth or fifth VR version of Zucc we’ve gotten so far.

The daily trading volume of the popular marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), OpenSea, has reportedly dropped to its lowest level in the past 13 months as interest for these novel digital assets continues to tank. According to data from DappRadar, only $10.1 million worth of NFTs exchanged hands through the platform on 9 August compared to $184.5 million users traded exactly 7 months.

These daily volumes are the lowest recorded by the platform since July 2021 and they indicate that both the value of this so-called “digital art” and the number of transactions taking place have suffered dramatically as a result of the crypto winter. Top collections have also been experiencing severe downturns in both volumes and number of sales. For example, the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs have experienced a 13% drop in trading volumes in the past 30 days to $39.6 million as of today along with a 32%.
