2022-11-05 12:18:02 Immutable unveils tool to enforce NFT royalties on Ethereum

Immutable is rolling out a product on Ethereum that it says will help enforce the payment of creator royalties. NFT creators will be able to use these lists to control the smart contracts which can transfer or receive NFTs from their collection, ensuring that users will only be able to trade.

The solution is already in use on ImmutableX, the company’s Ethereum-scaling Layer 2 NFT platform. The lists will be controlled by IMX token holders. Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson has come out in support of NFT royalties even as major marketplaces began to make them optional. Buyers can now opt out of paying royalties on NFTs on almost all major marketplaces, the largest exception being market leader OpenSea.

Revolut's new instant messaging feature, which launched yesterday in the UK and the European Economic Area, will integrate NFT profile pictures, CEO Nik Storonsky said in an interview with The Block at Web Summit in Lisbon. The new messaging tool, which allows users to chat as well as share gifs and stickers while sending and requesting funds.

Storonsky's comments come ahead of the launch of Revcoin, which he said is slated for "early next year." The long-rumored native token will function in a similar way to airline Air Miles programs, where users earn rewards based on how often they use the service, as previously reported by The Block. It will be tradable on exchanges. Revolut is also developing a non-custodial DeFi wallet which will operate as a standalone app.

Projects can verify, protect and manage their IP rights on NEAR and Ethereum blockchains, and V-Art aims to add Aurora and Polygon this year and Solana next year, V-Art CEO Anastasiia Gliebova told The Block at the web3 Summit in Lisbon. The firm raised $1.4 million in seed funding thus far.

NFT IP rights, particularly when it touches upon copyright, have led to skirmishes between NFT project leaders and holders in the past. Case in point was CryptoPunks created by Larva Labs. The NFT project did not have any public guidelines for IP or copyright for years — until users attempted to monetize their NFT, then LarvaLabs sought legal action against such holders.

2022-11-02 10:57:02 OpenSea Ethereum trading volume declines 13% as BAYC floor switches platforms

OpenSea’s Ethereum (ETH) NFTs trading volume has declined for the fourth consecutive month, dropping 13% to $303M, the lowest since June 2021, according to Dune Analytics data. According to the data, OpenSea’s Ethereum monthly active traders have also dropped for the fourth consecutive month.

OpenSea’s declining number is coming amidst a broader crypto market winter that has seen NFTs’ trading volume and the value of these digital assets tank to new lows. A recent DappRadar report highlighted seven NFTs that traded for record prices last year but are now worth only a fraction of their previous value. Cumulatively, investors who bought these NFTs lost around $30 million. DappRadar stated that the decline results from “declining interest in NFTs and dips in crypto prices across all blockchains.”

Reddit’s NFT adventure could not have begun with more excitement. On October 31, less than three months after its introduction, the top social media news aggregation platform’s NFTs (digital collectable avatars) reached a total revenue of $10 million.

The substantial increase in sales volume follows the 20th of October debut of the platform’s second collection of Reddit collectable avatars. Reddit debuted its Polygon-powered NFT platform and vault wallet in July, enabling users to exchange and preserve NFTs avatars (a series of digital avatars made by individual artists based on the Reddit mascot Snoo).

Yıldız Technical University (YTÜ) has become the first university to provide education on the metaverse in its virtual world, “Starverse.” Tamer Yılmaz, the rector of the university, gave the first lesson on “Innovation and Entrepreneurship” via this new technology with an avatar designed for him.

Students who came to the classroom door were asked: “Would you like to attend the class?” With the answer “yes,” the door opened, and Yılmaz’s avatar greeted the students. Attending the lecture in a lecture hall designed in the digital universe, 100 students were able to follow the lesson remotely from the computer screen or with augmented reality glasses. Accordingly, when the subject of the Industrial Revolution came, the working system of the steam engine invented.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hit theaters last weekend as DC’s latest comic book hero, Black Adam. But before millions of flesh-and-blood moviegoers watched him tear up the big screen, millions of fans had the chance to interact with an avatar of his character in Roblox.

“Roblox is definitely a huge area of interest for a lot of the clients we are working with across our company’s roster,” said digital strategy agent Kate Lonczak of WME, a top Hollywood talent agency that counts Johnson as one of its top clients. Roblox is gaining ground as a low risk metaverse play, Lonczak said, noting that many Hollywood stars have turned away from the web3 space since crypto prices crashed and some celebrity endorsements went belly up.
