India's first metaverse-exclusive fashion show took place last Saturday. The event was showcased on Decentraland, a global web3 platform. Decentraland is a 3-D digital game that is a user-owned, Ethereum-based virtual world platform.

The Fashion Tour in the Metaverse featured outfits from the 'Style Gallery' exhibit called 'This is not a T-shirt' project. These were unique T-shirt outfits designed by 60 designers & homegrown fashion labels, who embellished and/or deconstructed the basic T-shirt to celebrate their authentic interpretation of the four themes of 'Pride' showcased in the four city chapters this year.

Infinite Reality, a company that takes companies into the metaverse, announced plans to go public through a special purpose acquisition company, or SPAC. The company plans to raise at least $128 million at a valuation of $1.85 billion.

Infinite Reality would combine with Newbury Street Acquisition Corporation (NASDAQ: NBST), a publicly traded company that serves as an investment vehicle. Infinite Reality said it is working with some of the world’s biggest brands, including Warner Bros. Discovery Sports, to foster immersive virtual experiences and new monetization opportunities in Web3.

Luxury footwear brand Swear London has partnered with international game studio Darewise Entertainment and Skinvaders, a new-age tech platform bringing digital fashion to the metaverse, to launch its first-ever NFT collection.

The collection, set to be release in early 2023, will be available in the Life Beyond metaverse, developed and published by Darewise Entertainment. The metaverse offers an AAA science fiction multiplayer online role-playing game built to give users a unique off-world experience and digital ownership over their game assets.

Starbucks launched the platform on Thursday for an initial group of beta testers chosen from its waitlist. Additional testers will be added to the platform in January 2023 ahead of increasing functionality and access to come early next year. The company did not disclose how many customers signed up for the waitlist.

The value of the metaverse industry is projected to hit about $13 trillion by 2030, with fashion and luxury retail representing $50 billion, a study from Chalhoub Group shows. Currently, the sector is estimated to have a value of between $40 billion and $65 billion.

The potential is particularly big in the GCC, where a combination of a young tech-savvy population, a favourable regulatory environment and a well-funded start-up ecosystem, in which those involved in Web3 — one of the key underlying technologies of the metaverse — have attracted about $553 million in investments, the Dubai-based luxury retail company said in a report on Friday.
