2021-07-07 13:00:39 What's the big news about the Vietnamese government giving a big thumbs up for cryptocurrency?
On 1 July 2021, Vietnam's Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approved the country's e-government development strategy which covers the period from 2021 to 2025 with a vision that spans till 2030. Under the strategy, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has been assigned the task of developing and pilot testing a cryptocurrency issuance framework by 2023.

As Vietnam is home to the second highest number of cryptocurrency users in the world, this news is certainly a boon for the local population.

So, does Vietnam's e-government's strategy covers the general use of blockchain as well?
Yes, in furtherance to Decision No.2117/QD-TTG dated 16 December 2020, the country's Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Information and Communications have been tasked with actively undertaking R&D for blockchain along with a host other technologies including AI, VR/AR and big data.

2021-07-05 17:00:35 Is NFT a type of cryptocurrency?
No. According to AntChain, the blockchain technology arm of Ant Group which owns China's largest mobile payments business i.e. Alipay. According to a spokesperson of AntChain "NFT is not interchangeable, nor divisible, making it different by nature from cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin."

The statement was issued by AntChain on 1 July 2021 amidst a crackdown on cryptocurrencies by the Chinese government.

So, is it true that NFT is not a type of cryptocurrency?
The only similarity between NFTs and cryptocurrencies is the use of blockchain for the storage of digital records. Unlike cryptocurrencies whereby tokens of the same denomination have equal value, NFTs lack this feature as each NFT has a unique value thereby rendering NFTs to be non-fungible in nature.

The non-fungibility of NFTs renders them to be fundamentally different from cryptocurrencies and this in turn means crypto regulations are technically not applicable to NFTs.
