2021-07-09 13:00:48 What's the big news about crypto going mainstream in the Philippines?
In an interview with CNN Philippines on 2 July 2021, the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE)'s President and CEO Ramon Monzon revealed that the national stock exchange is planning to establish an exchange platform for crypto assets.

Monzon disclosed that the matter was discussed during a top management meeting two weeks ago and the general consensus was that crypto "is an asset class that we cannot ignore anymore.”

So, what's the rationale behind the PSE's decision?
In January 2021, the BSP which is the Philippines's central bank had issued new guidelines for crypto asset service providers after seeing “accelerated growth” in the use of cryptocurrencies in the country over the past 3 years.

The PSE is hoping that the trading infrastructure of its upcoming crypto exchange will be able to provide consumer safeguards and investor protection for crypto users and investors in the country.
